The God Xipe Totec was worshipped by both Maya and Aztecs and his image varied greatly from culture to culture. Xipe Totec was the god of Spring and hugely important. To pacify him, festivals were held where human sacrifices took place and the victims were skinned. Priests then wore the skins to ensure that a new life entered the earth during Spring.
