This is an exact reproduction of an Ancient Roman ring key. Ring keys like this were a Roman innovation. The wearing of these rings was a sign of status and suggested the wearer had valuable assets or money locked away. The rings were made from bronze or iron or a combination of the two. The original of this key can be seen in the Corinium Museum, Cirencester.
