Gray Whales, are a  baleen whale known for its impressive migrations and distinctive mottled gray skin. Reaching lengths of up to 49 feet and weighing around 30 to 40 tons, it is a medium-sized whale species. Gray whales have existed for around 2 to 3 million years, with their lineage dating back to the Pliocene epoch.

Today, they are found in the North Pacific, with two distinct populations: one in the eastern Pacific, migrating between Alaska and Mexico, and a smaller, critically endangered population in the western Pacific near Asia. These whales thrive in coastal waters, feeding on small organisms like amphipods by sifting sediment from the ocean floor.
