A modern, hand-painted reproduction on papyrus of the famous ancient Egyptian artwork known as the Meidum Geese. The original fresco is considered a masterpiece of ancient Egyptian art. 

Here are some key details about the original artwork:

  • Discovery and Location: The original painting on plaster was discovered in 1871 by Auguste Mariette in the mastaba (tomb) of Nefermaat and his wife Itet in Meidum, Egypt. It is currently housed in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. 
  • Age: The artwork dates back approximately 4,500 years, to the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom (circa 2575–2551 B.C.). 
  • Description: The complete original scene depicts six geese: three pointing to the left and three pointing to the right. The two central geese are of a different species than the four outer ones, possibly an extinct species. The geese are shown feeding on grass and are rendered with remarkable naturalism and vibrant colors. 
  • Significance: The "Meidum Geese" is celebrated for its delicate detail, realism, and vibrant colors, earning it nicknames such as the "Egyptian Mona Lisa
