Understanding Christianity through Religious Artefact.

Objectives:

• To introduce students to the religion of Christianity
• To help students understand the significance of various religious artefacts

• Religious artefact packs containing various items such as crosses, baptism candle, prayer cards, prayer tins, Christianity nativity set, icon of Jesus, wooden crosses, suncatchers, and crucifixion icon
• Pictures and videos of churches, religious ceremonies, and important Christian symbols
• Chart paper and markers
• Storybooks related to Christianity
• Worksheets and activity sheets

Procedure:

Introduction (15 mins):

1. Begin by asking students what they know about Christianity.
2. Show them pictures and videos of churches and important Christian symbols, such as the cross, the fish, the dove, and the lamb.
3. Ask students what they think these symbols represent and what they might mean to people who follow Christianity.

Main activity (60 mins):

1. Distribute the religious artefact packs to students and ask them to examine the items.
2. Explain the significance of each item, for example:

• The cross represents the sacrifice that Jesus made for humanity
• The baptism candle represents new life and rebirth in Christ
• The prayer cards and prayer tins are used by Christians to pray for themselves and others
• The Christianity nativity set represents the birth of Jesus Christ
• The icon of Jesus is a depiction of Jesus as a religious figure
• The wooden crosses and suncatchers are used as decorative items in Christian homes
• The crucifixion icon represents the death of Jesus Christ

3. Divide students into groups and assign each group a religious artefact.
4. Ask each group to create a poster or chart paper explaining the significance of their artefact.
5. Ask each group to present their poster to the class, explaining what they learned about their artefact.

Conclusion (15 mins):

1. Ask students to reflect on what they learned about Christianity through the religious artefacts.
2. Encourage them to ask any questions they may have about the religion or the artefacts.
3. Provide storybooks related to Christianity for students to read or use as a reference.
4. Provide worksheets or activity sheets related to Christianity for students to complete at home or in class.
