Rare Vintage Monkey Skull and Bones in Basket

This is an exceptional vintage and rare ritual artefact from the Vili people of South Congo, known as an Nkisi. Such objects were traditionally used for healing, protection, and spiritual mediation, and were believed to embody the presence and power of ancestral spirits.

Constructed from a baboon skull and bones mounted within a woven basket framework, this example also contains a small bone or stone element enclosed within, intended to reinforce its spiritual potency and ritual efficacy. Pieces of this kind are highly evocative examples of Central African ceremonial art and belief systems.
